hiv & travel insurance
Being HIV-positive and travelling abroad can have a number of implications, not only regarding your continuing health issues, and what is available or not if you need medical attention. Many countries have strict laws in actually admitting those who declare their HIV status and/or carry their anti-HIV drugs (Combination Therapy) with them when travelling. For further details click on the HIV & Travel button adjacent.
If you look through virtually every travel insurance policy, you will find in the small print, sections called 'Exclusions'. These are situations where the policy will not meet a claim. Most of them will mention not covering pre-existing medical conditions and specifically mention HIV and any related condition or mutation of the virus. If you, as someone who is HIV-positive and buy one of these policies, and then you become ill with an HIV related condition before you travel or when you are away and need to cancel your holiday, your costs may well not be met.
