aids support grant
The AIDS Support Grant (ASG) was introduced in 1989/90 to encourage the development of key plans within local authorities to respond to the growing problem of HIV infection and the operational plans for the provision of services to meet the needs of people living with HIV/AIDS, and where appropriate, their partners, carers and families.
The purpose of the ASG is to encourage local authority social services departments to:
• Develop critical plans, based on local population needs, assessment, for commissioning social care for people living with HIV/AIDS
• Finance the provision of social care for people living with HIV/AIDS, and where appropriate, their partners, carers and families
• Work in close co-operation with the NHS and the voluntary sector to develop models of diverse practice in the delivery of
HIV-related care services
• Support the cost of HIV/AIDS training relating to social care services
However, needs are constantly changing over the years since the ASG was first introduced, and the distribution of people requiring social constantly shifts
The relative success of antiretroviral drug medication in helping to delay the progression of HIV, and now the increasing numbers of woman and children from the black and ethnic minority groups requiring help and support have led to changes in the overall package of social care provided by social work departments and others within the major metropolitan areas
Dispersal of asylum seekers to areas outside London and the large metropolitan areas is beginning to have an impact on the planning and provision of care and support in areas where formally little was required, and these changes need to be seriously considered for the futureBelow you will find an Acrobat PDF link to information on the AIDS Support Grant allocation over the past 4 years.
